Ray Fox Debassige (Reaching to Us Through Rays of Light)
RAY FOX
Limited edition, signed print of the original graphite drawing, "Debassige" produced in 2018.
“Debassige” is an old word that has been in Ray's family for generations - associated with the Caribou Clan. “Deb” is a root word meaning, “stretching through” or “reaching to us” and “assige” meaning “Rays of Light”.
Essentially what Ray was told was that Debassige meant that moment in the day at light seems to be travelling the furthest. Like at the beginning of the sunrise or sunset, when the rays are stretching far. His Dad’s family had a farm in M’Chigeeng First Nation on Manitoulin Island. He thought “Debassige” would be the perfect title for this drawing because he looks as thought he is looking towards the light - and it could be at either the beginning of the day or the end.
Signed and numbered, packaged in a 11 x 14 inch matting, with backing, protected in a crystal clear sleeve. Artist statement enclosed.
Made in Sault Sainte Marie, Canada.
